Advocacy

Enhancing the understanding of the contribution oil and gas make as well as the critical role the oil and gas industry plays in the energy transitions to a low carbon energy future.

Advocacy

For almost twenty years, the IPEAB has been a proactive voice for the upstream oil and gas industry. Since our earliest days, we have used that voice to advocate for policies that support our members, so that they can provide the safe, secure energy supplies that society needs.

Shaping Policy and Regulation

Much of our advocacy work involves policy and regulation, on topics such as safety standards or the transition to a low carbon future. We aim to voice our view in an open, transparent forum before decisions are made, advocating for our members’ views before elected officials make their judgement.

Guiding Regulation with Expertise

We are committed to sharing sound data and expertise to help regulators and governments develop new policy frameworks that help support new objectives in everything from climate to safety to the environment.

Intensifying Industry Advocacy

We know that the next few years are going to be challenging for our industry. And that we will need to intensify our advocacy work as the geopolitical landscape continues to shift rapidly and society moves through the energy transition.

Safety

Our advocated for strong but fair safety regulation and our long-term goal remains the same: to eliminate fatalities and major accident hazards. We do this through hosting workshops with Members, meeting with regulators and Trade Associations, to help our industry drive improvements in safety.

Engineers often engage in advocacy to promote safety standards, environmental sustainability, and ethical practices in their fields.

Effective advocacy requires understanding both the technical aspects of an issue and the broader social implications, allowing advocates to communicate effectively with diverse audiences.

Policy, Practice, and Partnership

As an industry, we must decommission oil and gas assets in a responsible way. But we also need practical, achievable decommissioning policies and regulations. Our Decommissioning Committee helps Members plan, fund and deliver decommissioning projects that are safe, responsible and efficient, and advocates for risk-based decommissioning that considers both technology and evidence-based science.

Sustainable Approach

Around the world, the Committee responds to new policies and participates in guideline reviews. It works with a host of regulatory bodies. And our work is backed by technical reports, and position and response papers.

Lower Carbon

There is more than one way to achieve a lower carbon future. Countries are taking different approaches, reflecting their unique demand dynamics, capabilities, and cultures.

Transitioning World

oil and gas industry works to reduce emissions and to help the world while providing affordable, reliable, and versatile energy products for a growing global population.

Oil In Everyday Life

From medical equipment to household tools and clothing, you will be surprised to see to what extent oil and gas is entangled in our daily. A new interactive infographic showcases these many uses.

Training

Good training teaches the knowledge and skills needed to perform well on the job.

Content Outlines

For most people, taking and passing the IPEAB exams is their biggest concern, so here are the resources IPEAB provides for exam preparation. Within each program IPEAB provides Content Outlines for the exams. it contain the material covered on the exam with percentages of questions for each section. Each section contains a footnote to the references used to develop the questions for that section.

Practice Tests

Many of our programs have online practice tests to help you get familiar with the content and the exam interface. While we do provide feedback at the end with percent correct in each section, performance on the practice test is not necessarily an accurate predictor of how you will perform on the certification exam.

Work History

IPEAB lists the experience requirements on the program pages of our website. It is important to understand the specific experience needed to meet the certification requirements. The experience you gain from being on the job will help you pass the exams.

Performance Measures

Each program at each level has a set of performance activities that someone in a supervisory capacity must verify you have performed competently to meet the certification requirements. Reading, understanding, and practicing these performance activities will help you on the exams.

Recognized Training Providers

IPEAB has agreements with industry associations, colleges, technical schools and training companies. The listing is intended to help you find training that works best for you. IPEAB does not review, monitor, or endorse training programs and materials.
